1.1 Background of the Study
Climate change is one of the most pressing global issues, with severe impacts on ecosystems, economies, and human health. Nigeria, especially its rural areas, faces significant challenges from climate change, including changes in rainfall patterns, rising temperatures, and frequent droughts (Garba & Abdul, 2023). In Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, the consequences of these environmental shifts are evident in agriculture, water resources, and the livelihoods of local communities (Sadiq & Yusuf, 2024). While the issue of climate change is often discussed at international and national levels, local awareness and understanding of the problem remain limited.
Films, as an influential form of media, can play a key role in addressing this challenge by raising awareness and educating communities about the effects of climate change and the necessary adaptation strategies (Adamu & Musa, 2023). In Wase, films can be used to present real-life stories of how climate change affects farmers, rural communities, and local economies, while also providing insights into potential solutions. This study explores how films are used to highlight climate change challenges and assesses their effectiveness in creating awareness in Wase (Ahmad & Tanimu, 2024).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While climate change awareness campaigns exist, there is a gap in understanding the specific role films can play in enhancing community knowledge and driving action on climate change in Wase. This study seeks to examine the effectiveness of films in raising awareness of climate change and its challenges in Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State (Aminu, 2023).
1.3 Objectives of the Study
1.4 Research Questions
1.5 Research Hypothesis
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to the understanding of how films can be used as tools for climate change education. The findings will be useful for environmental organizations, filmmakers, and government agencies seeking to promote environmental sustainability in rural areas.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus specifically on the role of films in addressing climate change in Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State. Limitations include challenges in accessing all areas of the local community and ensuring that film content reaches all demographic groups.
